Rhinebeck is a village located in the Town of Rhinebeck in Dutchess County, New York. The population was 3,077 at the 2000 census. It includes the hamlet of Rhinecliff, which has an Amtrak station, Rhinecliff-Kingston (Amtrak station), with service to Chicago, Cleveland, Buffalo, Albany and New York City.
The Village of Rhinebeck is the principal community in the town. The postal ZIP code is 12572. US 9 passes through the village.
History
Settlement began in 1686, and the village was incorporated in 1834.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.2 km˛ (1.6 mi˛). 4.2 km˛ (1.6 mi˛) of it is land and 0.61% is water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,077 people, 1,376 households, and 690 families residing in the village. The population density was 733.4/km˛ (1,902.1/mi˛). There were 1,463 housing units at an average density of 348.7/km˛ (904.4/mi˛).
